Landlord and Peasant in Persia

By Ann K. S. Lambton
Oxford University Press (for the Royal Institute of International Affairs), 1953
459 pp. $9.00

A scholarly investigation of land tenure and land revenue administration. The first part of the book traces the history of the problem down to the Constitution of 1906, and the second part describes the contemporary situation. It is the author's contention that the problem is essentially political and social and that a profound alteration of the conception of social relations is a prerequisite to any real improvement in conditions.
