What would be the effect--on imports, on American industries and on foreign countries--of suspending all U. S. tariff duties for a period of three to five years? In attempting to answer this question, the author has assembled detailed information on hundreds of tariff items, giving rates of duty, imports and domestic production. The answers tend to deflate the tariff as an element in American prosperity.
