The Invisible Writing

By Arthur Koestler

Macmillan, 1954, 431 pp.

In this second volume of his autobiography ("Arrow in the Blue," noted here January 1953) Mr. Koestler deals primarily with his years in the Communist Party, in the 1930's. While his definition of his life as a "typical case-history of a Central-European member of the educated middle classes, born in the first years of our century" requires a number of reservations, the book is exceptionally illuminating of one major cycle of experience of our time.
