Memoirs. Volume I: Year of Decisions
By Harry S. Truman
Doubleday, 1955, 596 pp.

In this first volume of his memoirs former President Truman, after a brief review of his earlier career, writes of the first months of his Presidency--momentous months which saw the end of the Second World War, the beginning of the chill which developed into the cold war, and the first atomic explosions. Though we gain a number of new insights into the events of that period, the general impression remains of a confused interregnum in the midst of a world of new and ill-defined problems.
