The author of this personal report was chaplain to the American Catholics of the foreign colony in Moscow--though he traveled extensively--from 1953 to 1955. While his principal concern is with the vicissitudes of religious expression and the churches in the Soviet Union, he offers many perceptive remarks on contemporary Russian society.
