This manuscript, smuggled out of Hungary in the spring of 1957, is a vigorous defense by Nagy, written in 1955 and early 1956, of his policies as Prime Minister. Of special interest in the light of Nagy's actions during the subsequent Hungarian revolution are his stinging attacks on Rákosi, the police state, and forced industrialization and collectivization.
