Algeria: the Realities
Algeria: the Realities
By Germaine Tillion
Knopf, 1958, 115 pp

A very brief but exceptionally perceptive and illuminating analysis of the roots of the Algerian problem, by a French ethnologist. The picture she gives is a dark one, the problems of population and social dislocation are enormous, and the time is very late. As she observes, "There are a lot of victims but few criminals --and the possible solutions seem to me to contain the germs of yet further tragedies."
