Philippine Freedom: 1946-1958

By Robert Aura Smith
Columbia University Press, 1958
375 pp. $5.00

A sympathetic and informal review of the achievements and tribulations of the independent Philippines, by a member of the editorial council of The New York Times. While the author finds the economic prospect bad for the short view if good for the long run, he regards the political outlook as "exceptionally bright" despite the untimely death of Magsaysay.
