The Politics of Despair

A study in social psychology, based on interviews in France and Italy, of the attitudes and outlook of the "Communist protest voter" (not Party member). Part of the attitude is reflected in the remark of a French toolmaker: "I don't care if the workers get a good standard of living under capitalism or socialism. . . . I don't want a revolution; I just want change. . . . All I want is to enjoy myself in this life. For all I know it may be the only one I have."
