Books on President Kennedy have followed the law of the pendulum. The early hero worship of Schlesinger and Sorensen was followed by the unfair criticism of Walton and Fairlie. This solid work attempts a balance (more pro than anti) by comparing Kennedy systematically with other twentieth-century presidents and by basing conclusions on extensive research in newly opened sources.
