Overlapping and partially complementary surveys of the Russian scene by correspondents of The Washington Post and The New York Times recently assigned to Moscow. Basically, these are not treatises on the Soviet system, but honest and perceptive descriptions of daily life which tell, incidentally, a great deal about how the system works.
