Communism in Italy and France

Edited by Donald L. M. Blackmer and Sidney Tarrow
Princeton University Press, 1976
651 pp. $25.00

A splendid volume of interpretive essays and detailed empirical studies on the two largest communist parties in Western Europe. The contributors examine the way in which these parties have adapted themselves to life in their respective societies, and how their inevitably ambivalent stance has affected their participation in domestic politics and their relations with the international communist movement. An excellent collaborative effort.
