Complementing her earlier work on small powers, Ms. Fox's study scrutinizes relations after World War II between the United States and four "middle" powers: Australia, Brazil, Canada and Mexico. Her careful analysis of the politics of bilateral cooperation in defense, trade, investment and other global issues is followed by a general conclusion arguing that these seemingly lopsided relationships display more intricate patterns and structures of bargaining than has been generally assumed.
