War and Peace in the Middle East: The Experiences and Views of a U.N. Observer

General Bull of the Norwegian Air Force served the U.N. in Lebanon in 1958 and as Chief of Staff of UNTSO from 1963 to 1970. His straightforward account of his experience testifies to his neutrality and his integrity, which won the respect of both sides. Although but a minor contribution to history, it is valuable for its lessons on the role of U.N. observation and peacekeeping forces.
