Psychological Dimensions of Near Eastern Studies

Edited by L. Carl Brown and Norman Itzkowitz
Darwin Press, 1977
382 pp. $16.95

An experiment in "letting a few new ideas splash over the ossified received wisdom" of Near Eastern studies. The book has many contributors, little unity, and contents ranging from the culture and psychopathology of an Armenian community in Lebanon to the "modal" personality of Saudi college students. But new ideas are here, and this kind of study is not irrelevant to Near Eastern politics.
