A splendid subject: the gradual mobilization of French intellectuals against continued colonialism, set in the context of French politics and of the traditional role of "the intellectual [as] the explorer of the sacred." A bit pedestrian in exposition, it is nevertheless an important contribution to the neglected study of decolonialization.
