Bernard Reich's book invites comparison with Safran's because its subject and theme are the same. He tells the story with less historical depth and background but with a wealth of citations and footnotes that is almost intimidating. He knows his subject well, knows what everyone else has said or written about it, and like Safran he is objective in his attempt to assess the "special relationship."
