A History of Rhodesia
A History of Rhodesia
By Robert Blake
Knopf, 1978, 435 pp.

This important account of Rhodesian political development from its earliest African settlement to the present is based on ten years of evidently painstaking research. The approach of the author (whose biography of Disraeli offered another view of Britain's imperial past) is objective in tone but one-sided: although white Rhodesia's progress to its present impasse is recounted often with striking insight, the black nationalist perspective is almost entirely absent.
