The Illusion of Peace: Foreign Policy in the Nixon Years

The most comprehensive account of this immense subject yet to appear. The author has interviewed extensively, read indefatigably, and had access to considerable inside information. There is much new material, for example, on the retaliatory bombing that was almost unleashed on North Korea in 1969. Szulc has a sharp eye for misrepresentation and deplores the "extraordinary immorality" of U.S. leadership. One reservation: the thinking and behavior of foreign leaders are relatively neglected.
