This is the report of a joint Senate-House committee's visit to Peking in January 1978. The majority of the ten-member committee, headed by Senator Cranston, recommended establishing diplomatic relations with the People's Republic, breaking diplomatic relations with Taiwan, and ending the Mutual Defense Treaty. Significantly, only two of the separate statements appended to the report explicitly dissented from this particular recommendation.
