An important survey of the recruitment, utility, status, and general treatment of so-called guestworkers, who in fact tend to be immigrants. In 1976 they still constituted nearly ten percent of the German work force; almost half of them were Turks and Yugoslavs. Most aspects of the complicated process are well covered in this study.
