In Part I, the function of the state in society is delineated, with some stress on theories of corporatism. In Part II, these concepts are applied specifically to Peru. One conclusion: despite some successes, "... it was evident by the mid-1970s that as an organic-statist experiment, the Peruvian regime had failed."
