Exploding Star: A Young Austrian Against Hitler

By Fritz Molden
Morrow, 1979
280 pp. $10.00

Fritz Molden, a prominent publisher in Austria, grew up in the political turbulence of interwar Vienna and came to play a major role in his country's resistance movement in World War II. As liaison with Allen Dulles and the OSS in Switzerland, he undertook various missions into German-occupied territory, gathering information and coordinating underground activity. His memoirs, on the bittersweet years of his youth and the dangers of living between two fronts, are vivid and evocative.
