The Arab Press

By William A. Rugh

Syracuse University Press, 1979, 205 pp.

Written by a USIA officer who served in Riyadh and Cairo, this book does not attempt to assess press content country by country or year by year, except incidentally to the author's main purpose of describing the media as political and social institutions. But his industry and care in collecting data give the book, among its other merits, the character of a handbook for Western journalists and others making their way in the Middle East.
