Juan Domingo Perón: A History
Juan Domingo Perón: A History
By Robert J. Alexander
Westview Press, 1979, 177 pp.

A well-known Latin American expert provides workmanlike biographical analysis, in the format of topical headings, of a tragic rather than a great leader. Lacking a clear political philosophy, Perón was doomed to tactical maneuvering as a substitute for a strategic purpose, and to the squandering of splendid talents on destructive rather than constructive undertakings. An interesting observation: "No man who really cared for his wife would have used her cadaver for his own political benefit in the way that Juan Perón did."
