The Pugwash conferences of senior scientists from many countries have made an important impact on arms control thinking since 1957. The first volume here contains a collection of articles by Professor Bernard T. Feld, Secretary-General of the Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs since 1973. The second volume consists of a number of papers on various aspects of nuclear war prepared for the 30th Pugwash symposium held in Toronto in 1978; many of these, by eminent contributors, are of high quality.
