Marxism: For and Against
Marxism: For and Against
By Robert L. Heilbroner
Norton, 1980, 186 pp

A country in which the intellectual traditions of Marxism are weak and where its friends and enemies alike abuse terms and ideas is fortunate to have one of its finest expositors of ideas tackle the subject-even if he has to struggle sometimes and the book is more a debate than a primer. Readers are not required to arrive at the same balance of considerations "for and against" as Heilbroner (quite favorable to Marxism on the analytical side, very doubtful on the prescriptive) to get a great deal out of this lively study.
