There is a plethora of conferences on the North-South issues, and some of them elicit good work, as these two volumes show. Goodwin and Mayall ran a seminar at the London School of Economics and then a conference for which papers on a variety of commodity issues were written. Realistic negotiating possibilities on the same subjects, plus trade and finance more generally, were the focus of the Oxford conference covered by Sengupta's volume.
