Building the Future Order

By Kurt Waldheim

Free Press, 1980, 261 pp.

A superior scissors-and-paste job, a "synthesis" of the Secretary-General's reports and statements over the past few years. Following a schema based on the main sections of the U.N. Charter, well-chosen pieces illustrate both the limitations of the office and the discreet and modest approach of Mr. Waldheim, but also manage to convey the long-term hopes for a peaceful world which he strives to keep alive.
