The merit of this book lies in its careful research, bringing together in convenient summary the origins, procedures and decisions of the International Military Tribunal in Tokyo and of the national military commissions (involving some 5,700 accused) in various allied states. It touches on but does not go deeply into the legal and political issues that have so preoccupied writers on the trials of German war criminals.
