Politics of Compromise: Coalition Government in Colombia

Edited by R. Albert Berry, Ronald G. Hellman and Mauricio So

Transaction Books (for the Center for Inter-American Relations), 1980, 488 pp.

This most recent of the publications of the Center for Inter-American Relations continues the high standards of its predecessors. The subject-the United Front in Colombia, well defined here as "an elite-dominated, bipartisan 'hegemonic' regime [which] replaced the traditional system of elite-dominated party hegemonies"-is inherently significant and deserving of close study. The contributors give the Front generally high marks as they explore the implications in full range and depth. The final interpretive chapter is helpful.
