War and Hope: The Case for Cambodia
War and Hope: The Case for Cambodia
By Prince Norodom Sihanouk
Pantheon, 1980, 256 pp.

Although the former leader of Cambodia has no magic solution to the country's present tragedy, his book does shed a great deal of light on the events that led up to the Vietnamese invasion in late 1978. What emerges clearly from his account is that Sihanouk despises the Khmer Rouge even more than he does the Vietnamese, for whom he has some grudging respect, and that any collaboration-being urged by the Chinese and some others-between the Prince and the Pol Pot forces is out of the question.
