Heinemann/Holmes & Meier, 1980, 315 pp.

The former leader of the British Liberal Party recalls his life from childhood in St. Andrews through Eton and Oxford and the war to his years in the Commons. The book excels because of the force and candor of his impressions of a vast array of topics. His comments have bite for today: "This stagnation in Labour thinking is not fortuitous." Readable and instructive.
