The history of the Christian Social Party (COPEI) is given here, together with its ideology and an appraisal of the Caldera government. Considering themselves to be non-communist revolutionaries, the leaders of COPEI have emphasized nonviolent alterations in the conditions of the workers and peasants through an active role by the state in collaboration with the private sector.
