History of the Romanian Communist Party

By Robert R. King
Hoover Press, 1980
190 pp. $8.95

Recognizing that in many respects the history of Romania since World War II is the history of the Party, Robert King deliberately limits his study to the Party itself, its organization and leadership, the main lines of its policy, and the relation of Party to society. He succeeds as well as his material permits, but of course many key sources remain closed to foreign scholars, and the Institute of Party History has not seen fit to publish its promised comprehensive history.
