Private power is more often attacked than celebrated; here, however, multinational corporations look good as organizations that know how to get things done and pragmatists who cope well with hard facts and foolish governments. Easy reading and good quotes make this a good survey, despite lack of a tight analysis. Sovereignty, Mr. Madsen seems to be saying, is not so much at bay as dépassé.
