These two sophisticated and clearly written volumes throw a good deal of light on how developing countries have responded to inflation and what are the real effects of the process. Balance-of-payment difficulties seem to be easier to deal with than domestic inflation. And, for unexplained reasons, Asian countries seem to do better than the others in controlling inflation.
