A collection of papers delivered three years ago at an American conference on a topic then intensely fashionable. Some of these contributions-most of which deal with ideological rather than political or social changes-remain relevant, as does the contention that the very appearance of the diverse phenomena that have been given the name "Eurocommunism" suggests the limits of Moscow's hold. The exceptional case, of course, was the Portuguese Communist Party, ably depicted here in the context of the Portuguese revolution.
