A symposium of experts reviewing the political, economic and cultural prospects of West Berlin. Martin Hillenbrand, former U.S. Ambassador to Bonn and at present Director of the Atlantic Institute in Paris, and his collaborators probe the idea that "there is a real danger of stagnation, loss of élan, and that eventual withering, on which the Eastern side has come to count." The contributors contend that with the proper efforts this danger can be averted and Berlin can still become, at least in part, a model.
