The Dominican Republic
The Dominican Republic
By Ian Bell
Westview Press, 1981, 392 pp.

The author, a scholarly retired British diplomat whose skills extend to literature and art, provides the most recent volume in the Nations of the Modern World series. The origins of the Dominican people, the history of the country, and its social and economic characteristics are all covered; maps, tables and illustrations are provided. In much of the book the treatment is topical rather than narrative in format. Solid and accurate, an excellent general source.
