This exhaustive autopsy of the East African Community does not give rise to much optimism about future integrative efforts in Africa. As the contributors largely agree, the causes of death were multiple and mortality virtually inevitable, given political strains plus the lack of economic leeway, in any of the countries, to cushion the necessary adjustments.
