The Kurdish Question in Iraq

By Edmund Ghareeb

Syracuse University Press, 1981, 223 pp.

Difficult as it is to find the facts on the aims, tactics and personalities of the Kurdish national movement in the on-again off-again struggle with successive governments in Iraq, Ghareeb has set a high standard in the thoroughness and objectivity of his effort. He takes the story to a logical stopping point, Iraq's deal with the Shah and the mopping-up operations of 1975, though of course this story of conflicting nationalisms has no logical end.
