West Germany and the European Community

By Werner J. Feld
Praeger, 1981
151 pp.

Some quite useful comments on the history of German relations with the Community and on present prospects, including a brief discussion of how Bonn could regard greater integration with Western Europe as conflicting with hopes for further progress toward Ostpolitik and-in some remote future-toward reunification. The book is marred by much emphasis on "a new theoretical approach," which consists of the author's "growing conviction that progress in regional economic and political integration is mainly a function of the foreign and domestic policies pursued by the member governments of a regional organization."
