Conflict in Northwest Africa: The Western Sahara Dispute
Conflict in Northwest Africa: The Western Sahara Dispute

An old North Africa hand provides a definitive delineation of the conflict which has drained material resources and political energies in the region since 1975. Damis proposes two variants of a Solomonic territorial compromise (an "enlarged Sahara" and a "diminished Sahara") but admits that the current military stalemate discourages compromise and that none of the many contending parties has so far evidenced the flexibility necessary for a negotiated resolution.
