Jamaica: Struggle in the Periphery
Jamaica: Struggle in the Periphery
By Michael Manley
Writers and Readers, 1983, 259 pp.

The former Prime Minister of Jamaica defends his record, asserting the need for "a third way" and his contention that Jamaica and the Third World "are on the receiving end of the imperialist whip." He believes that destabilization tactics were unleashed against his government, and he hints at U.S. instigation through his extensive use of analogies with Chile. He defines Russia's influence within its bloc as a "hegemonic process of domination" but not as imperialism, since he finds no "transfer of wealth" there.
