The Socialist Corporation and Technocratic Power: The Polish United Workers' Party, Industrial Organization and Workforce Control, 1958-80

This book is based on a Ph.D. thesis and reads like one. It is, however, of special interest because it goes so deeply into questions of industrial organization, class relations and Party policy. In addition to illustrating the challenges of productivity and reform which exist in all the command economies, they were directly or indirectly relevant to the social explosions that took place in Poland in 1970, 1976 and 1980.
