Economic Summitry
Economic Summitry
By George de Menil and Anthony M. Solomon
Council on Foreign Relations, 1983, 88 pp

A highly readable, although fairly time-specific, account of one of the newest "institutions" in the international economic firmament. By presenting the perspective of two people from quite different backgrounds - one an academic, one a former participant in the summit process - as well as drawing on the views of a distinguished study group, the short book throws some considerable light on the role and significance that the summit meetings have had since 1975. It provides the first succinct synthesis in the public domain of the record of the summits up to the 1983 Williamsburg meeting, and outlines some features of the current debate within governments and elsewhere about the practice of summitry.
