Multinational Enterprise and Economic Analysis

By R.E. Caves

Cambridge University Press, 1983, 352 pp.

Not quite the one-volume summa we are all hoping for, this is still a major contribution. Professor Caves of Harvard has rigorously surveyed the already large literature to see just what has been proved-and what remains unclear-about the economics of multinational enterprises. Public policy is treated more generally, politics are left aside, as are Marxist and related schools of thought. Very good chapter summaries, an essay on the literature, and a 30-page bibliography help make this an excellent study, a basic guidebook for future work in the field.
