The Influence of the Carnegie, Ford, and Rockefeller Foundations on American Foreign Policy: The Ideology of Philanthropy
The author, inspired by the ideas of the Italian Marxist Antonio Gramsci, explains the overseas activities since 1945 of the major foundations as designed to advance American cultural hegemony and thereby assist in the fulfillment of the government's foreign policy objectives. He describes and implicitly deplores the foundations' support of Western-style universities in the Third World and the Western-style liberal education they purvey. The research is based in part on foundation archives.
