The War Everyone Lost-And Won

By Timothy J. Lomperis
Louisiana State University Press, 1984
192 pp. $22.50

The aim of this book is to dispel the notion that the United States lost all that it sought and the communist side won a complete victory in Vietnam. The author points out that the Vietnamese Communists have not yet attained their goal of political legitimacy; nor did the war prove the efficacy of "wars of liberation" in the Third World. The underlying message is that Americans should not allow themselves to be paralyzed by a totally negative reading of the lessons of Vietnam.
